Girls on the Run of Gaston County

learn. dream. live. run.

Charlotte International Airport’s 7th Annual Runway 5K

The culminating event of our program is the Girls on the Run 5K run; this is the goal that your runner will be working toward all season. To prepare for that event, Girls on the Run of Gaston County will participate in the CLT Runway 5K at 8 am on October 26th. This race will serve as our Practice 5k and introduce our girls to the challenges and rewards of completing a race. The Runway 5k is a run like no other at one of the nation’s most unique locations and busiest airports. We are asking that each GOTR be accompanied by a Running Buddy, someone 18 or over who can run with her. Running Buddies can be parents, aunts and uncles, family friends, or older siblings. We will register all program participants and coaches for the race, but Running Buddies must register individually. Register by Tuesday, October 15th to receive reduced rates.

Important Information

Packet pick-up for Running Buddies will be available for pick up Wednesday, October 23rd through Friday, October 25th, 10:30 am—6:30 pm, Charlotte Running Company, 1412 East Boulevard, Suite G, Charlotte, NC 28203. Running Buddies may also pick up their packets at the airport on the 26th.

Girls on the Run should wear their orange program t-shirts, which are on order and will be given out at practice the week of the race.

The airport is taking great pains to accommodate us. They have designated a parking lot just for Girls on the Run of Gaston County. To download and print directions and parking information, click here; note that the parking lot location has changed this year. Carpooling is strongly encouraged.

Girls on the Run should arrive at the airport no later than 6 am. This will be a very large race; race organizers anticipate 2500 runners plus spectators. Traffic will be very heavy. Make sure you leave in plenty of time. Your daughter will be so disappointed if she misses the race start! And the airport has lots of fun activities planned just for us - Disney characters, Blaze the fire department mascot, static airplanes to climb on, 107.9, and more. The race will begin promptly @ 8 am.

Once you are parked, please come to the designated GOTR area. Click here to download and print a map of the airport staging area. Your daughter’s coach will be holding a team sign and will give your daughter her race bib there.

For your security, airport personnel will be checking all bags. For more information about the race, visit www.charlotteairport.com.
